Our good friends at Unitary Engineering invited us along to their first-ever family fun-packed charity cricket tournament at Brislington Cricket Club and what a day it turned out to be!

Held as a vital fundraiser for the charity ‘Community of Purpose’, six local businesses strung teams together to compete in the cricket, whilst the event provided a slice of heaven for the kids with a full inflatable football pitch, bouncy castles, waltzers, and even an impromptu mini sports day, run by Gemma Box and the COP team. As you’ll see from the pictures the kids had some serious fun!

It’s fair to say it is the first time in a good few decades that any of the Firstpoint team had played cricket if at all before but we didn’t disappoint! With a good mix of bowling and some ruthless batting, we managed to win each of our pool matches including the penultimate head-to-head against the hosts UES to reach the final against the tournament favorites MJT Controls.

We were dealt a major blow in the final losing our talisman Stan in the first over of the game with a torn hamstring (seemingly we’d all been warming up the right arm swigging pints of cider and had neglected our other limbs!) but soldiered on, bowling & fielding well against a strong team who batted brilliantly posting a high score for us to chase. Sadly, we were not able to chase the score down and were eventual losers in the final, MJT worthy winners on the day.

The event finished with a raffle and auction raising much-needed funds for this amazing charity. Community of Purpose continues to transform the lives and futures of young people in our city with a strong focus on holiday hunger at the moment. Our thanks go to Adam Griffiths and the UES team for all their hard work putting this together, along with Amy Kington & Gemma Box at Community of Purpose
